Het is weer vrijdag, dus tijd voor een overzicht van de releases van deze week!
Enter Shikari (foto) – Nothing is True & Everything is Possible
Nothing is True & Everything is Possible is alweer het zesde studio album van de Engelse band Enter Shikari.Voor het album uitkwam sprak frontman Rou Reynolds met het blad Kerrang en daar vertelde hij over het album: “Possibility is the central theme of the album, lyrically, but it also is musically, too. We’ve pushed further and asked ourselves, ‘Where can we go? Let’s fucking go there!’ Op 12 december staat de band in de MAX van de Melkweg in Amsterdam. Wij hopen er bij te zijn.
Thomas Oliver – You Shine On Me
Deze week kwam de nieuwe videoclip van Thomas Oliver zijn nummer ‘You Shine On Me’ uit. Het nummer komt voor op zijn nieuwste album ‘The Brightest Light’ dat op 6 maart werd uitgebracht. ‘You Shine On Me’ is een vrolijk soul/pop nummer en is een metafoor voor de liefde, Thomas vertelt: “The song’s a metaphor of the warm glow of love in an otherwise gloomy Berlin day. ‘You Shine On Me’ is based on a time in which Bella Florence (dear friend, ex-girlfriend, and backing vocalist in my live band) lit up my life in Berlin. She just shone brighter than everything and everyone around her.”
Thomas Oliver legt verder het concept voor de video uit:
“The concept for the You Shine On Me music video was devised by Mitch Lowe (manager), inspired by the song’s references to colour and light and its vibrant energy. The pre-production basically involved Mitch and me scanning the city of Wellington for anything that fell into the category of the three primary colours; red, yellow and blue. We bought shoes, shirts, hats, sunglasses, musical instruments, juggling balls, fruit, novelty hands, balloons, and a fire extinguisher, and we employed our friend and world-renowned instrument maker, Tony Francis, to create a few custom pieces, like a big yellow sun, a yellow sketch book and a yellow table-and-chairs. We also drove around borrowing red, yellow and blue instruments from our friends!”
Declan McKenna – The Key to Life On Earth
Het tweede album van Declan McKenna zou eigenlijk op 15 mei uitkomen, maar de release daarvan werd verplaatst naar 21 augustus. Om alvast een voorproefje van het album te geven, bracht McKenna ‘The Key to Life On Earth’ uit. In de videoclip is hoofdrolspeler van de serie ‘the end of the fun***in world’ te zien, die wel erg veel lijkt op McKenna..
Jason Mraz – Look For The Good
Jason Mraz bracht deze week zijn nieuwe single ‘Look For The Good’ uit, dezelfde titel heeft zijn nieuwe album dat deze zomer uitkomt. De single is weer een heerlijk vrolijk liedje zoals je verwacht van Mraz. Laat dat hele album maar komen!
girl in red – midnight love
‘midnight love’ is een voorproefje van het debuutalbum van girl in red dat in 2020 uitkomt. Over haar nieuwe single zegt ze zelf: “‘midnight love’ feels like my best work so far. its my first song with a piano, but the approach of writing it was a bit different than usual too. even though i’m singing from my perspective, as the ‘victim’, in real life it was actually me who was ”bad guy.’ a close friend was treated the same way i had treated someone else. like, this dude would text her at night to see if they could meet up, and it kind of gave her false hope that they could be something more, so she always would say yes and be there for him. seeing that so up close gave me some perspective and i realized that my situation was very similar. so this song is pretty much me reflecting on how small i’ve made someone else feel. even though i never meant be a dick, i was. we met up recently after she heard the song and i apologized. i think she forgave me.”
Florence + The Machine – Light Of Love
Met haar nieuwe single ‘Light Of Love’ wil Florence + The Machine geld ophalen voor mensen die werken in de frontlinies tijdens de corona crisis. ‘Light Of Love’ zou eigenlijk op haar laatste album horen te staan, maar last minute werd er anders besloten.
Bob Dylan – I Contain Multitudes
De 78 jarige Bob Dylan zit zeker niet stil en kwam deze week met zijn tweede nieuwe single in drie weken! Waardoor de geruchten gaan dat er wel eens een nieuw album van Dylan aan zou kunnen komen. Het nummer zit vol met verwijzingen, bijvoorbeeld naar Anne Frank, The Rolling Stones en Indiana Jones. Anders dan de single (die 17 minuten duurde!) die Dylan een paar weken geleden uitbracht duurt ‘I Contain Multitudes’ netjes 5 minuten.
